Nick Coffey, Director
Nick joined INDECS in 1992.
Nick is a specialist in the management and negotiation of insurance claims representing Assureds, with extensive International experience in the energy industry and its related insurance markets. Nick is involved in a variety of cases at any one time, ranging from on-going consultancy work for established clients including multinational IOCs, NOCs, Independent E&P and refining companies, to one off advisory assignments providing benchmarking exercises on insurance programmes for clients worldwide. He has advised assured’s on many of the largest and most complex insurance claims for onshore and offshore industry, including Piper Alpha, P-36, La Mede, Toulouse Fertiliser Plant Explosion, Buncefield Oil Depot Explosion, Ekofisk 2-4W.
Currently, Nick is the lead adviser managing a number of high value insurance claims including advice on strategy, coverage interpretation, management and co-ordination of resources, contractual negotiations, liaison with loss adjusters, brokers, lawyers and insurers. The claims under management by INDECS on average exceed USD2.5 billion.
Paul King, Director
Paul joined INDECS in 2002.
Paul has extensive International experience in the energy industry and with its insurance mutuals. He specialises in the development of risk transfer programmes. Paul is involved in a variety of cases at any one time, ranging from on-going consultancy work for established clients to specific ad-hoc assignments for clients worldwide. He completed the OIL Technical Accreditation in March 2013.
Paul has managed a number of high value projects - both on and offshore, providing advice on risk management, insurance purchasing strategy, contractual reviews and negotiations, invitations to tender for broker and insurer selection, and advice post policy placement (including claims preparation and claims advocacy). Additionally, Paul has provided consultancy to lenders, financing such projects.
Barry Williams, Director
Barry joined INDECS in 1999.
Barry is a specialist in the provision of insurance and risk management services advice to lenders, borrowers and government bodies in relation to Structured Finance projects worldwide, where he has a strong reputation for providing high quality advice in a broad range of industries. Barry is currently advising Lenders on transactions with a total value in excess of $24 billion including power, energy, infrastructure, housing, utilities and renewable projects. Barry also provides bespoke consultancy services in relation to risk analysis, structures and solutions for clients worldwide, notably in relation to the feasibility, formation and optimisation of captives.
Prior to joining INDECS, Barry was closely involved in the establishment and management of a number of successful mutual insurance companies.
Kit Hollis, Senior Consultant
Kit’s main focus at INDECS is to manage and resolve claims for a number of major clients operating in multiple jurisdictions. In particular, Kit has particular expertise on claims involving all aspects of offshore projects/operations. Kits experience includes onshore and offshore construction, operating risks, terrorism and Control of Well.
Ian Saunders, Senior Consultant
Ian joined INDECS in 2008.
Ian’s principle area of expertise within the Insurance Consultancy strand of the business is to provide clients with a range of services from ad hoc support on insurance issues to the delivery of a complete outsourced service solution.
Ian has successfully managed multiple insurance program tenders covering broker and insurer services. These have been for companies with an insurance budget ranging from under USD500,000 to over USD100 million.
Ian has built up extensive experience working directly with major oil and gas companies in the design and implementation of a broad spectrum of multinational insurance and reinsurance programme solutions. He was previously a vice president at Marsh within their energy team specialising in exploration and production upstream/midstream accounts with worldwide interests.
Ian holds the British Insurance Brokers Association Certificate of Competence.

Mark Williams, Senior Consultant
Mark joined INDECS in 2008.
Mark’s main focus at INDECS is bringing a wealth of experience to bear in providing strategic claims advice to our clients, particularly in the preparation of high value and complex business interruption claims including onshore and offshore Loss of Production Income and Revenue claims.
His experience and knowledge of claims has enabled him to provide litigation support and he has been engaged as an Expert Witness in the UK and US courts.
Mark began his career insurance industry career in 1983 as a loss adjuster with Robins Davies and Little Chartered Loss Adjusters (now GAB Robins). In 2000, Mark moved to Deloitte & Touche LLP Business Insurance Consulting, providing claims consulting services on major property and business interruption losses to UK and overseas clients in the oil and gas, manufacturing, energy and other sectors.
Tom Shiel, Senior Consultant
Tom’s principle role at INDECS is to provide Clients with advice and counsel on strategic risk management issues, considering insurance as a key security tool in major project finance transactions, and assisting with multi-million dollar claims negotiations.
Since joining INDECS, Tom has helped clients manage a number of risk management issues such as consulting with government authorities on financial security for new environmental liability regimes for the nuclear industry, structuring post-Macondo contract risk liability and risk allocation strategies, and developing a robust global Well Control insurance limit selection model.
Tom has had a wide and varied career in insurance and risk management in national and major international oil and energy companies. He has managed offshore, onshore, liability, marine and construction risks, and placed global insurance and captive programmes to cover these risks. His last role before joining INDECS was Enterprise Risk Manager at Shell International Limited, with ultimate accountability for Shell’s global risk and insurance management strategy, and development and training of Shell risk and insurance staff.

Juliet Hamilton, Consultant
Juliet assists clients with risk management strategy and provides advice for the structured management of information that is required to support large and/or complex insurance claims.
Juliet has been and is closely involved in the Gryphon FPSO claim. Her knowledge of the oil & gas industry coupled with her academic achievements provide her with the skills and understanding necessary to assist in the analysis of risk and claims related issues. Juliet has gained valuable experience across both the Insurance and Energy sectors, having held positions at Markel International and Shell.
Sara Walton, Consultant
Len Goodhill, Consultant
Now semi-retired, Len has been involved with INDECS from its formation. Len's extensive experience of major claims enables INDECS to continue to give its clients a cost effective and efficient service leading to speedy and satisfactory results.
Len is part of the claims team, sharing his wealth of knowledge with fellow consultants and clients alike, ensuring INDECS provides a comprehensive service especially in those claims involving complex and challenging issues.
Mark Roe, Consultant
Mark joined INDECS in 2006.
Mark's main focus at INDECS is the review of insurance coverage for complex claims in order to provide clients with a strategic review of the ways in which they can maximise their insurance recoveries. Mark also regularly assists clients in arranging and coordinating root cause investigations designed specifically to deliver what is needed for an insurance claim.
Mark has previously worked for Lloyd's as an Energy Claims Adjuster, having experience with complex onshore and offshore PD, BI/CBI, COW/Redrill, TPL (Claims Made and Occurrence) claims. During this time Mark worked on many of the markets' major losses worldwide with unlimited settlement authority. Mark also spent a significant proportion of his insurance career working as an Energy Claims broker, eventually becoming head of Energy, Non-Marine, Power and Construction claims with Aon Ltd. London.
Mark has a diploma in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering and is a CEDR (Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution) Accredited Mediator.
